Staithes and Runswick Bay Lifeboat Weekend is the culmination of a year of hard work and fund raising for the RNLI. It is a fun filled weekend for all the family, full of events and festivities to suit everyone.

The weekend begins on Friday 29th August with the Nightgown Parade.

Saturday 30th August the main day starts at Runswick Bay at 10.30 am with stalls and various RNLI Lifeboats on show in the harbour & also an exercise with them, with the Runswick Rescue boat joining in as well.

The Auxiliary Coastguards from Staithes & Skinningrove will also be in attendance.

This finishes around 12.30pm and all the vessels move up to Staithes for the afternoon’s events.

Staithes starts at 2pm with the official opening by a celebrity and G2 Fireworks team fire’s a rocket for the grand opening. This is followed by the launch of the Staithes Lifeboat from the beach depending on the weather and tides.

We have various stalls, games to play, things to buy, raffles/tombola’s, ferret racing and public refreshments.

There is a raft race for all ages, which you build yourself on the day. Pallets and buoyancy aids provided by the lifeboat, but you can bring your own. It must be man made NO mechanical devices. This is a fun race; its not winning it's taking part and enjoying the race.

This is followed by the main exercise, involving lifeboats, a Search And Rescue (SAR) helicopter and coastguards, depending on tides and weather.

At 6pm there is a Fancy Dress Parade & Competition Results.

The beach side BBQ starts at 7pm and goes on till late. There’s an open air Disco, 10pm signals the start of the Spectacular Firework Display by G2 Fireworks Team from Middlesbrough. This display is provided by local businesses all year round, they are, the Cod & Lobster, the Royal George, Pink Fusion & Glen Vale Car Park.

Sunday 31st August

Is the Great Duck Race down the beck, followed by the Grand Draw Raffle. In the middle of the afternoon we have a service of thanks giving at Runswick Bay, then on to Staithes with a similar service at 6.30pm.
