The much photographed Harbourside Bistro is located in
the centre of the Staith looking out across the harbour
to the sea. This Grade II listed building is unique and
probably one of the oldest buildings in the village. Full
of antique furniture, the accommodation is at present
a private residence but is due to become a holiday cottage,
with each room offering fantastic views across the historic
harbour and is full of character and charm.
It offers the only fresh caught
fish and chips in Staithes, as well as the famous Staithes
Crab Sandwiches, a large selection of other sandwiches
are on offer, along with many other mouth watering delights.
Locals talk of the building being
used for smuggling and a residence for the famous Staithes
Group of artists. One of its more recent famous residents
was actor Peter O’Toole best known for his portrayal of
Lawrence of Arabia. The building also appears on many
of photographer Frank Sutcliffe’s well known Victorian
photographs.
