Around the parish of Hinderwell

Steeped in history there are many places within Hinderwell parish that offer a look into the past. Among these are the Captain Cook Heritage Museum in Staithes, while a short drive away is the Tom Leonard Mining Museum which gives the history of ironstone mining in the in the area.

A short distance inland and you are on the moors with its wild open spaces traversed only by animals and the North York Moors Steam Railway on which the Hogwarts Express - from Harry Potter - was filmed. On the coast the cliffs are alive with seabirds and numerous sea creatures can be found in the rock pools when the tide is out.
